How Lend works for tutors

Lend is a site that enables students to find tutors. Students can send an enquiry email to any tutor they are interested in.

We forward that email to you and keep the student unaware of your email address. We track these initial contacts so we can gauge how effective the site is.

Once you receive an enquiry, you can exchange direct contact details with the student and communicate directly — that's fine. Or you can keep communicating through the student's Lend email address, and we'll continue forwarding messages.

There is no charge during the launch stage. In the future we may charge a small monthly fee, or simply ask tutors to remit a small amount for each lead that becomes a fee-paying student — more or less on the honor system. Time will tell.

This isn't a project designed to make lots of money — the intent is simply to deliver a reasonable and necessary service, for a modest price.

Enrollment Agreement

By creating a Lend tutor account, you agree that:

  • You confirm that you are 18 years of age or older. This platform does not support members under 18.
  • Your headshot photo and promotional flyer will be shown publicly — putting a human face to your name and encouraging students to purchase instructional hours.
  • Your headshot and flyer images must not contain any additional information that enables direct contact with you — such as your email, WhatsApp, or phone number. If such information is present, the site operator is authorized to edit those images to obscure that information while preserving the remainder of the image.
  • Your city, state, and country (not your street address or postal code) will be shown publicly, along with your first and last name.
  • Your native language, fluent languages, and the languages you teach may be shown publicly and used to match you with students.
  • You assure that you are honest about your native language, your fluent languages, and the languages you offer to teach. These assertions may be checked by the site in the future, and deficiencies may result in your tutor account being suspended or deleted.
  • We make best efforts to keep your other personal information confidential.
  • All messaging that runs through the site is recorded by the system, and may be reviewed by administrative staff if necessary for the smooth operation of the site.
  • The site is currently free. In the future, modest fees may be introduced — you may cancel your tutor account at that time if you wish.
  • You understand that in the future the site may introduce a reputation management system, allowing students to leave favourable or unfavourable reviews of tutors they have paid for language instruction. A mechanism will be in place to resolve or remediate any dissatisfaction privately and avoid public disclosure of negative evaluations. If you are not satisfied, you may delete your account, and all reputation management information about you will be hidden.
  • You will not publish or promote any material on the site that is offensive or is intended to harm or demean any other person or group.
  • This site does not support communication or marketing of any messages or services of a sexual or political or religious nature.
  • The intended focus of the site is for language instruction and for matching students to tutors, and any use for other purposes is forbidden.
  • You will not scrape or extract information from the site intending to compete with it in any way.
  • Site member behaviour contrary to this agreement may result in the member account being suspended or deleted.
  • These terms may be updated by the website operator from time to time, with notice.
